Miami Dade College’s Virtual College Wins International Award for Instructional Design

Miami, May 1, 2015 - Miami Dade College (MDC) is always finding new and innovative ways to meet the educational needs of a busy student body. MDC’s Virtual College is no exception, and once again has been awarded for exceptional course design. Senior Instructional Designer Alexandre Strzyzewski and Professor Ruth S. Barrow were recognized by the prestigious United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) for their interactive redesign of the Introduction to Customer Service course. They were presented with the Silver Award for the USDLA International Awards competition in the category of Best Practices for Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching.

Virtual College Earns National Acclaim

Barrow were presented with the Silver Award in the category of Best Practices for Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching for their work on an introductory course that serves students in degree programs including Hospitality Management, Marketing Management, and Supervision and Management.

Virtually in a League of Their Own

Miami, November, 2013. MDC Virtual College Lead Instructional Designer Alex Strzyzewski and MDC Professor Sarah Garman recreated MDC’s Humanities 1020 online course, which has received two national awards.

Miami, May 20, 2013 - In  an effort to make humanities just as alive and engaging online as it is in the classroom, a team of Miami Dade College (MDC) faculty and staff gave the course an interactive redesign, which has not only won over students but also the prestigious United States Distance Learning Association’s (USDLA) Award. The redesigned course recently won the Gold Award for the USDLA International Awards competition in the category for Best Practices for Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching. The course also won a Catalyst Award for Exemplary Course Program from Blackboard Inc.

Holographic Professors: NSU Designs Distance education of the Future

Fort Lauderdale, February, 2009. The Holographic Professor recently generated academic buzz at the Blackboard World Conference attended by representatives from leading academic institutions. Alex Strzyzewski and Loy Campbell of IZone were invited to present the Holographic Professor for “Best of Client Innovation” in online course development at
the conference. More than 300 participants attended the session and gave IZone two standing ovations.
